For the first time in her acting career Kareena Kapoor had to train for eight to nine months for her role in a movie.
And that movie is Yashraj Films presentation Tashan which is set to hit the theatres on coming Friday.
The film has Kareena in a full-on action role for the first time. Before the shooting began, producer Aditya Chopra , director Vijay Krishna Acharya and designer Aki Narula sat together with Kareena to chalk out her look in the film. And all of them agreed that Kareena would have to get slimmer for her role. More than anyone, it was Kareena who wanted to get slim because she personally thinks that action roles suit girls with lean figure.
Thereafter began Kareena’s personal toil to lose all the extra fat and flab. The first thing she did was to shun all the junk food she had gotten used to. She even began abstaining for her favourite Chinese food. And to eat healthy, non-fatty food, Bebo roped in a dietician named Roojuta who worked out a diet regimen for the actress.
But losing weight required more than dieting. Bebo hired a yoga trainer from Bharat Thakur’s school and began practicing various asanas and breathing exercises. Added to that was the gym workout.
All of this coupled together showed results within months. Kareena, the curvy Punjabi kudi, had changed to a diva with a sylphlike figure. And she was ready to do some kick-ass action scenes for ‘Tashan’.
But her newly acquired figure came under severe scrutiny from media. She was dubbed “anorexic”, “zero-sized figure”, “starved”, and what not.
Kareena brushes off these tags as “rubbish”.
“Actors worldwide gain or lose weight for their films. I did the same for ‘Tashan’. So why all this hoopla about my being anorexic? I am fit and healthy. And I am not starving myself,” Kareena says.
By the way, in ‘Tashan’ Kareena plays a girl who loves to make a fool out of everyone.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was nothing but overjoyed as his team Kolkata Knight Riders beat the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the opening match of the Indian Premier League on Friday.
“It’s one of the happiest days of my life and certainly the happiest on a sports field... I couldn’t be happier,” is what SRK told a newspaper said soon after returning to the Windsor after the match.
Reports are that the King Khan was so thrilled he hit the dressing room floor and danced to the theme song – Korbo, lorbo, jeetbo re.
“What a performance! I mean, look at the way Brendon McCullum batted... An amazing innings... My boys were throwing themselves on the field and, well, it’s just very pleasing,” SRK said.
The team returned to the hotel some 30 minutes after SRK got back and he was at hand to greet them once again.
On Sourav Ganguly, SRK remarked: “He’d told me he was a bit nervous returning to cricket as a captain, but he needn’t have been... You know how Sourav leads...”
As he headed towards his suite to freshen up for a party thrown by Bangalore Royal Challengers owner Vijay Mallya, SRK added: “It does set things up very well for a Super Sunday at the Eden... Indeed, I’m so happy for all our fans...”
On Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders take on Deccan Chargers at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The King Khan had gone straight to the stadium after arriving on a private jet in Bangalore. Once at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, he had a one-on-one with each player and member of the support staff.

Love does not end after the first moments of romance have been savored. But to live a life of love with your spouse, every moment after marriage has to be savored. That's where the true test of love lies and that's what Ajay Devgan delivers in his directorial debut, U ME AUR HUM. A superb effort from the actor.
There is an old story told, of an elderly gentlemen visiting a dentist. A young man notices him looking at his watch as he is waiting to be attended. Curious, he asks the elderly gentlemen if he had anywhere else to go. 'Yes', replied the elderly gentleman, 'I have to be at 9 at the hospital to visit my wife, she is suffering from Alzheimer's. The young man further asked, "Does she even recognize you?" "No" said the elder. "Then why bother going if she does not even know who you are." "You see," said the elderly gentleman, "it does not
matter if she does not know who I am, I know who she is."
There is a link between that story and U ME AUR HUM. This movie is not about you or me; it's about HUM as a couple! It's a very sensible film, which deals with a very, very sensitive aspect of married life - commitment. The tagline is apt: "The greatest journey in life is the distance between two people" How well Ajay (Ajay Devgan) makes you travel this journey with him and Peeya (Kajol).
Ajay and Peeya meet on a cruise. She is a waitress, while he is a psychiatrist on a holiday with his friends. The story is told in flashback and the beginning is a little confusing with an aged Ajay trying to woo an old Peeya on a cruise. But as the movie progresses, you realize what the director is trying to convey. He plays a small mind game before putting the puzzle in place. The movie begins and ends on the cruise, twenty-five years later, thus showing that it may not always be smooth sailing
in a marriage, there may be the huge waves that will rock your boat, but if you hold on to the sails, your ship will dock at the harbour of love.
Ajay's moments spent in wooing Kajol after he first sets sights on her serving drinks provide the lighter moments and after intermission come the moments loaded with emotions of a different kind. The first half drags a bit but the second half more than makes up for the lapse. Still, this movie is about three-hours long, some tight editing skills were required.
Kajol is first rate. This is an actor here with the Midas touch. She makes acting look like child's play. As the young girl who falls in love with Ajay, she is simply ravishing; as the doting wife, she is awesome and when tragedy strikes, her confusion is alarmingly clear. She is the scene-stealer in the entire movie. This is not to undermine Ajay Devgan who comes up with a reassuring performance; be it as the lover boy romancing Kajol or as the husband who refuses to leave her side.
Two scenes tear at your heart; one when Ajay leaves Kajol in the care of a hospital for good, and another when he goes to get her back, against his doctor's advise. Both actors sizzle the screen with their chemistry, be it while in love or when its time to sacrifice.
Yes there are other characters to support the two, but there is nothing much of note to write home about them. There is also good photography and background score. But, you know something? This movie is about them (Ajay and Kajol).
You would not want to miss a first rate Kajol, would you? Surely she has thrown in her hat for the best actor (female) category at next year's awards. On second thoughts, her performance is beyond awards! I'm also sure couples will go in droves to watch the magical moment of commitment which completes the circle of marriage!
I would give this movie 4/5. DO watch the movie and post your comments.

Star Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, and Malaika Arora Khan Director: Farah Khan Producer: Red Chillies Entertainment Music Composer: Vishal – Shekhar Lyrics: Gulzar
Promo of the song Aankhon Mein Teri from Farah Khan's new film with Shahrukh- Om Shanti Om
After the mega success of ‘Main Hoon Na’, Farah Khan is now picturizing her second directorial venture ‘Om Shanti Om’. The film has an ensemble starcast on the lines of Main Hoon Naa. Shah Rukh Khan leads the way, followed up by Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, Malaika Arora Khan and debutante Deepika Padukone. Deepika is a model turned actress. She recently made news by opting out of a Salman Khan starrer.
Farah Khan calls ‘Om Shanti Om’ as a film which people will love as it is a wholesome package of entertainment. The title has a universal appeal and also carries an image for the visuals. The classic tale of Subhash Ghai’s ‘Karz’ saw Rishi Kapoor dancing on the tunes of Om Shanti Om and now it’s Farah film title. Incidentally, Farah’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ carries a similar plot of reincarnation as it was in Karz.
The story begins from Karz but doesn’t end there. It is about an artist of the seventies who falls in love with the girl of his life. But as masala had to come in, the artist suffers an untimely demise. He is reborn at the same time and then the movie leaps into the 21st century. He is disturbed by the memories of his previous birth and attempts to solve the mystery of his past.
Apparently, the theme of Om Shanti Om is inspired by the Hollywood flick ‘Chances are’. In the film, the man is reincarnated and tries to find his wife from his last birth. But as time had moved on, his wife is much older to the man and does not believe in his words.
Coming to the music of the film, Vishal-Shekhar have taken the responsibility to set the tunes on the words of Gulzar saab. Initially, A.R Rehman was going to compose for the film but his demand for 33 percent share in the profits of film’s music, saw him out of the project. Main Hoo Na’s music director Annu Mallik was also not considered for this project though Farah shares a good friendship with Annu.
Recently, it was also heard that Shakira, who is acquainted with Farah as a choreographer, is in talks to make an appearance in the film.
The film is expected to set the heartbeats thomping with a great combo of fantastic music and storyline. The talented and the famous starcast adds on to the guarantee of an entertainer.

Amitabh Bachchan denies being upset with Ram Gopal Varma
Bollywood mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan has denied being upset with Ram Gopal Varma who directed him in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag .
On leaving the premiere of the Sholay remake midway, Bachchan clarified that he went back to be with his ailing mother.
Reacting to a report in a section of the press, Bachchan said: "Kya Karen (What can I do)? People will talk. I can't live my life in accordance with wagging tongues.
"Yes, I did leave the 'Aag' premiere early. But not because I didn't like the film. My mother's health has taken a turn for the worse. And I'm trying to spend as much time with her as possible," Bachchan told a news agency over the phone.
"Since I had already seen 'Aag' I left the premiere early. Even now as I talk to you I am at the hospital with my mother."
The entire family is spending as much time as possible with Teji Bachchan. The Big B is dividing his time between shooting at Yashraj Films and rushing to the hospital.
Salman Khan 's arrest has created a flutter in Bollywood as around Rs 75 crores is at stake due to stalling of movies having the actor in a lead role.
The industry experts are, however, hoping that the delay caused by the arrest will not be too long and they were willing to wait and watch the future proceedings.
"Arrest of Salman Khan is a jolt for the Hindi film industry as Rs 75 crore rides on him. But as of now the situation is not that serious as it seems," trade analyst and critic Komal Nahata said in Mumbai.
Corroborating with Nahata's views, Kumar Mohan, editor of trade magazine 'Complete Cinema' said "Salman being a celebrity, his films would get affected. But only if he remained in jail for long."
"Salman has two films on the floor as of now; one is Afzal Khan's God Tussi Great Ho (Rs. 35 crores) which has been in the making for the last two-and-a-half years," he said.
"There is also the remake of Tamil hit Pokhri (Rs 35-40 crores), produced by Boney Kapoor . Shooting has just begun for this film that also stars Ayesha Takia . Shooting has not yet started," Mohan said.
The third film that Salman has already been signed for and paid Rs 15 crores is Mukta Arts' Yuvraj; the director is Subhash Ghai . Salman was in talks with Rajkumar Santoshi for his ‘London Dreams’ as well.
"We aren't worried too much now as we expect the verdict to cause just a brief delay in production as the actor can still go for appeal in a higher court. He has signed a few of them, but they are yet to go on floors. In this situation, there are little chances of serious losses to producers," he said.
He also confirmed that the producers will not be in a hurry to take back the signing amount from Salman.
"He is a celebrity, in big league. Nobody would want to demand money back from him. Also we are positive of the future. However, nobody is above the law," Mohan said.
The actor's home banner, Sohail Khan Production, has just signed a contract of Rs 91 crores with Indian Film Company for two films. They include the sequel to Partner - it is titled ‘Tom and Jerry’ and also stars Govinda .
There is another film called ‘Mr. and Mrs. Khanna’ that also stars brother Sohail Khan and Lara Dutta and directed by Prem Soni.
For the first time in his career, Shah Rukh Khan will strip for a scene in his upcoming film Om Shanti Om .
Years ago, when SRK was shooting Main Hoon Na with Farah Khan , he had promised her that if he ever strips before the camera, it would be for a Farah Khan film.
And now that Farah is directing Om Shanti Om for his production house Red Chillies Entertainment, SRK has fulfilled his promise.
SRK and Farah made this disclosure on Karan Johar’s show Koffee With Karan. In fact, SRK went on to say that he had been building his body for his role in the film.
SRK said it was his son Aryan who made him aware that he was “fat” and needed to lose weight. Since then, SRK said, he had been working on his body and had managed to develop “four packs, two short of six packs”.
While both SRK and Farah refrained from speaking about how much SRK’s stripping scene in the film would reveal, Farah did say that SRK did not go fully monty. And she added that the audience would love the scene.
The show also featured SRK’s co-star in the film, Deepika Padukone .
